Catching A Wave

About a week ago me and Sophie took a surfing lesson at the Wave in Bristol. The Wave is a large human generated lake. It produces waves from the back, and they get smaller towards the front. It is fully solar powered ,meaning it has to be in a big open space. It is about a kilometre walk from the parking lot to the wave.

Our lesson was at 4:30, and we got there at 3:45. We were a little early so we watched the other surfers go. There are 3 levels : advanced, intermediate and beginner. We were in the beginner lesson, so we went close to the start. The intermediate would go in the middle and the advanced would go to the very back where the waves were at their biggest.

When it was time, Sophie and I put on our wet suits and waited for the lesson to start. We were in a huge group, so it was split up into 2. Once we were in our groups, we went to get our boards. We had to wear our helmets because it was concrete at the bottom.

When we got our boards, we all went to sit on the grass and had a brief lesson on how to do it. We learned how to stand up, how to paddle and how to stay safe. Once that was done, it was time to hit the water.

When we first got in the water, it was super cold, but the wetsuit made it warm. I was first to go, my first wave felt huge and I was unable to stand up the first few times. On the walk back to where we stared it was super hard because the waves kept pulling me back snd making it feel much deeper than it was.

After a few runs I finally was able to stand up and catch the wave. It felt super good because I was going so fast! Surfing was super hard because it used muscles that I haven’t used in a long time.

Our lesson was about an hour and a half, and I really enjoyed it. When it was time, we got out and put our boards back and took off our wetsuits. We were super hungry, so we got some French fries. Over all, I loved surfing and can't wait to do it again!
