Skiing in the Desert

Skiing in Dubai

Sophie and I went skiing in Dubai. You’re probably wondering how that is possible because Dubai is a desert and super hot all year round. It was about 35 C when we were there. Well, believe it or not there is an indoor place to go skiing and it’s pretty cool (no pun intended).

It’s called Ski Dubai and its in a giant building attached to a mall Called The Mall of the Emirates. Its basically a giant freezer that makes snow so you can ski. It can get as cold as -5 C  and blows snow down from snow makers. There are thick insulated walls to make sure no heat can get in and no cold air can get out.

Sophie  and I went in to get signed up. Once you have paid and signed in you have to get your gear. They had a stupid rule where if you only ski for 2 hours, they give you all the gear except gloves which was so weird. We put that aside and bought our gloves and got ready to hit the hill making sure everything fit well.

Once we walked in we took a second to look around. It was so huge. When we went to get on the ski lift we realized that you could either go half way up or go all the way to the top. We chose to only go half way up for our first run to make sure we got the hang of it.

Our first run was super fun and we were both happy that we remembered how to ski (me) and snowboard (Sophie). We went down the small hill a few more times and decided it was time to move up to the big hill.

When we got to the very top we were both a little scared but we knew it would be easy, after al we’ve skiied at Mont Tremblant. I went down before Sophie so we weren’t in each other’s way. It started off pretty easy but got harder as we went down because the snow was very thick and bumpy. Even with that it was still so much fun. It definitely is not the hardest hill I have ever been on but considering it was inside they did a super good job.

About an hour into our time, they made everyone not in a lesson stick to the left side so half the people were squeezed into one quarter of the hill. Sophie and I eventually started to use the whole hill because it didn’t really matter.

Over all Ski Dubai was a super fun experience and it was well planned. Sophie and I had an absolute blast on the hills. I would most definitely go there again and would recommend it to everyone going to visit Dubai. Something very different.
